The International Workers’ Day is most popular in India by the name of Labours’ Day or May Day. It is celebrated every year on May 1. This day was created to celebrate the achievements and hard work of Labour class. Labour Day has its origins in the labour union movement, specifically the eight-hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest. Little dough-like kindergarteners were the stage-holders and the concept of this day was kneaded into them.
“Let’s celebrate the labor that build up this great land, from field to field, desk to desk, they built it hand in hand.”
The kindergarteners were made to extend their gratitude to the labour around them, the ones who care for them, seen or unseen. This celebration by the kindergarteners was like saying Thank you on behalf of the whole school to those who work for their cleanliness, health, support, hygiene and much more. A special assembly in the school auditorium of Cambridge International School, Phagwara encompassed the celebration with full aplomb. Thought-provoking quotes were spoken, Morning Prayer was sung and skit was performed. The most interesting thing was that the little kindergarteners were the performers. The school labour was the special audience in this celebration. This is enough to say how special they felt. They were also made to play exciting games. Gifts were distributed. The Kindergarten wing put in a lot of effort for them. Not just that, the labours were also given a chance to perform and exhibit their talents which remains hidden otherwise. Worthy Principal also became a part of this celebration, having a firm belief that:
“All Labour that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.” –Martin Luther King Jr.
The labour was at last honored with a gift hamper. They were made to feel special and wanted and that formed the basis of the celebration.
